Speaking at an event in New Delhi, WhatsApp Vice President Chris Daniels said that the ads would offer “an opportunity for businesses to reach people.”
No timeline was given for the change, but Wall Street Journal recently said, citing WhatsApp officials, that WhatsApp Status will start showing ads next year.
WhatsApp ads Status is something that could give advertisers a way to keep track of their ads as well, Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Facebook said.
On the same note, Chris Daniels, WhatsApp Vice President said that the ads would also be the service’s “primary monetisation mode for the company”.
WhatsApp Status is a simple way to show what you’re doing in the form of multiple photos or a short video a way to show what you’re doing in the form of multiple photos or a short video; status will now become a source of revenue for Facebook.
The status, launched in February 2017, is visible to your contacts for 24 hours before they disappear, was launched as a knockoff of the Stories feature found in Instagram and Snapchat.
“Wall Street Journal reports that the company will bring new ad types to let users know they can text companies directly via WhatsApp for any customer-service queries. The report adds that the company will charge between a half a penny and 9 cents (roughly 34 paise to Rs. 6.2) – depending on the country – for every message delivered to a WhatsApp user.”
The good news, the ads are heading to a place where many WhatsApp users are unlikely to see them.
